Realizing retirement is around the corner can be more terrifying than discovering the 24 rolls of toilet paper you just purchased are so thin you can see through it.
If retirement is in your five to ten year plan do you have the required $1,000,000 in your bank account? This week I had coffee with a financial consultant. I shared with him I had read an article trumpeting the need to have six figures in your retirement bankroll. Instead of shooting it down he replied, “You need at least that much.” Smack. He hit me right between the eyes.
What about you? I won’t keep beating the idea like a talking TV head slamming a candidate who has withdrawn from the Presidential race. some Baby Boomer are on track. Not me. What about you? Can you afford to retire?
This question is one of the pieces of my ReFIRE concept. The second “R” stands for “RICH.” When you enter this exciting phase of life you need to become rich through a feeling of security as you transition out of your career into the Land of Post-Career.
I wrote all about this in my post on Monday. If you haven’t read it you might want to click HERE to check it out.
Not long ago I challenged myself to get an article published on Huffington Post. This is no small feat. I read they receive 3,000 article submissions every day. What chance did I have of getting an article published on a website with an audience of millions of people?
Last week I submitted an article. Within 10 minutes the editor wrote back and said, “Looks good. Let me send you a link and get you set up to be a contributing writer.”
This DIDN’T happen because:
- They instantly recognized my name as a famous writer.
- They read the post and thought they had discovered the next Michael Hyatt.
- They had nothing else to publish.
- They knew I am the world’s best life coach.
Here’s why it took them only 10 minutes to accept my submission: they know there are millions of people who could relate to the information in the article. They knew lots of people are not financially prepared for retirement.
This past Monday I received an email from the editor informing me the article had gone live. The title is “3 Things You Must Do Now If You Can’t Afford To Retire.” If you’ve not read it you can find it HERE.
There’s a hidden take away from my experience. Dreams can come true. Even at my ripe old age of 62 I’m knocking things off my bucket list.
C’mon man. Let’s go. I challenge you to not give up on your dreams. REFIRE your life!
Great article Randy! Congrats on the new audience and the new lease on life. Keep living to the fullest.
Thanks Ron. Same to you!
I SO totally dig hearing the story about you getting this article accepted! What an exciting accomplishment! Good for you! Keep ’em coming! I continue to need the swift kick in the rear that you’ve been so effectively providing! :)
Thanks Garry. It seems we are getting good at providing mutual encouragement!
