As you near retirement, the word “invest” shouts a little louder. You realize the importance of investing because life is about to change. Soon you will walk away from your established career and launch into the best chapter of life.
But have you stopped to realize how many people have invested in YOU?
- Through the years, people stuck their neck out for you.
- They gave you wise council.
- They pushed a twenty dollar bill into your palm.
- They put in a good word for you.
- They vouched for you.
- They were your go to reference on all those job applications.
- They encouraged you when you wanted to give up.
- They got you started in your career.
- They were your shoulder to cry on.
It’s time for you to say “thanks” to those people who invested their life into yours.
At this point in life you realize the concept of investing transcends the inferior thrill of making money. The real joy in investing focuses on giving to others. And many have invested in you. Isn’t it time you say thanks?
Here’s the best way to say thanks to those who have invested in you: live in a way that would make them proud.
Sure. You could make a list of people who have poured their lives into yours and send them a thank you card. You could take them out for coffee or buy them a meal. But there is no better way to say thanks to the people who have influenced you, than to live your life in a way which points back to them in a positive way.
This is different than to suggest you ought to live your life to please people. Nope. Be your own person. March to the beat of the tapping of your own foot.
But when you live your life in such a way to make your investors proud, you validate their investment in you. It proves the wisdom of those who went out of their way to make you what you are today. Everyone wants to know if their investment paid off. All investors smile when they get a report from the stock broker showing dividends. The same is true for those who have invested in you.
How do you live your life to make your mentors proud? Here’s an idea. Start investing in others. It’s now your turn to step to the plate and do for others what many have done for you.
This is why I write. My goal is to invest in others because so many people invested in me. It’s my turn to try and make a difference in the life of someone else.
One of the 6 key principles of the ReFIRE process is built on this word “Invest.” Do you get it? This new chapter in your life is not all about you. It’s about you starting to pay back investors by investing in others. It’s time for you to say thanks.
Randy, I so agree with your statement, “…there is no better way to say thanks to the people who have influenced you, than to live your life in a way which points back to them in a positive way.” To have a heart full of appreciation for those who have given you a chance is the best way to live. And God is at the top of that list! :)
If given the chance to do the same thing in return I would certainly do the same way.
To those people who have invested in me, you might come across this page and find this comment, I just want to let you know that I remember your kindness. I wish you are living your life healthy and happy right now. May the Lord God continue to bless you and your loved ones.
