I’m tired. What about you? It seems the older I get, the more I need to work at finding ways to increase my energy. The days of waking up in the morning filled with energy are long gone.
Would you like to know how to get more energy? If you Google to find the answer you will get the ordinary ho-hum answers. How many times can someone blog about getting more sleep and eating super foods to increase energy?
I write about the ReFIRE process. One of the components of this process is recognizing the need to be energized. We need all the energy we can get to make the rest of life the best. This principle is broken into three sections: physical, spiritual, and emotional. If we can find a way to give these three areas a shot of adrenaline, we are on our way to living with more energy.
Here’s 3 really weird hacks to get more energy in each of these areas.
Physical: Energize your life by going shopping.
When I say go shopping I mean go shopping like you mean it. When I go shopping I go into the store, find what I want, and leave. But if you are going to get more energy into your life, you need to shop like you mean it. Go to the mall like a person on a mission; walk fast from store to store.
The idea, of course, is to get off your butt and engage in some exercise. Get out of the house and start moving. Feel the sense of urgency as you shop until you flop. Leave no store unturned. Consider not bringing any money with you. This really isn’t about buying but about exercising. Get the blood pumping.
Emotional: Energize your life by stop watching Fox News.
I knew a lady who watched Fox News every day for hours. She confessed that constant exposure to the alarming news of the world drained her. It sucked her dry. Her mental energy poured into ways to protect the family from dangers which would never threaten them. Trying to solve the world problems is exhausting.
I’m suggesting you unplug, or cut way back, from the time you spend watching the news. You are not going to solve the world hunger problem. Your solution to the immigrant crisis will not be adopted by Congress. It’s great to care about your world but realize your energy is being drained. Stop watching Fox News or CNN or whatever news channel has captured your attention.
Spiritual: Energize your life by reading the same Bible verse every day.
Not all readers are religious. But I’m convinced everyone can draw strength and inspiration from the Bible. Think of Alcoholic’s Anonymous. Their program is based on God. Some people opt to choose their own version of a Higher Power. I’m not fussing about any of that. But whatever you call God, recognize there is power and energy available outside of yourself.
You tap into that external power by exposing yourself to the Bible. Again, you may not be a Bible reader, but it remains the best-selling book in history for a reason. It inspires and energizes those who read it. Find a Bible verse to read every morning and evening for 30 days. See if it increases your energy level. If you are new to the Bible let me suggest Isaiah 40:31 as a verse to use. It reads like this: “…but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
You and I need all the energy we can get to make this chapter of life the best. Give these 3 weird hacks a try. You might be surprised what it does to increase your energy level.
Love the insights, again. Wish I wasn’t so clumsy and could walk without falling down.
Diane: I know you’ve had far more than your fair of health struggles. I didn’t know that walking had become a difficulty for you. I’m guessing any kind of exercise would be helpful when it comes to generating energy. Are you able to join a health club where you could ride a sit down stationary bike? Also, I’m wondering if any others readers might have a suggestion?
I just wanted to add a humorous anecdote…today I was shopping in a Fred Meyer store in a large city and as I was entering the store I was almost literally
run down by a shopper! Your description of shopping as if on a mission totally describes this fellow! He was walking in a power walk mode and had a look of serious urgency about him! I think he must have read your blog!!
Too funny! I guess he was getting the blood flowing?
